Petersfield & District Literary Society
About the Society
The Society, founded in 1990, is the independent literary society for Petersfield and its surrounding villages.
Our mission is to promote the enjoyment and study of the written word over a wide range of subjects (excluding religion and party politics).
The society is well supported by an enthusiastic and good natured membership, reflecting, as they do, a wide and diverse range of interests. New members are especially welcome.
In order to enable all who wish to participate, membership fees are set at a modest level.
MEETINGS
The Society meets at 7.30pm on the first Friday of each month (except August) at the Winton House Centre (on the north side of Petersfield High Street, just across the road from Marks & Spencer).
Facilities and access for the disabled are available.
The pedestrian passage (Folly Lane) to the right of Winton House, leads to the Central Car Park where plentiful evening parking is available free of charge.
Membership (annual fee £10.00 as at Nov 08) may be obtained upon application to the Hon Treasurer and entitles members to attend all monthly meetings free of charge. They can also participate in special events (for which an appropriate fee may be charged) that are organised from time to time by the Committee. Further details of the Society can be obtained from Winton House or by telephoning Jane Makin on the following number 01730 260277. Non-members are very welcome @ £1.50 on the door.

To conclude we can do no better than quote from The Fine Art of Reading by David Cecil.
The primary object of a student of literature is to be delighted. His duty is to enjoy himself, his efforts should be directed to developing his facility for appreciation.
