Air Ambulance (Hampshire & Isle of Wight)

The Air Ambulance Service is now operating. It needs to raise £65,000 per month and is entirely funded by the generosity of the public.

The helicopter is manned initially by two paramedics, and at a later stage a doctor will be on board. It can carry up to two patients on stretchers and will be used to attend many different types of emergency, ranging from road traffic accidents to accidents in the workplace and sporting accidents. It will also be used to transfer patients between hospitals, when they require emergency specialist treatment at another hospital.

For fund-raising join the Flight for Life Lottery and sign up as a subscription member. The cost is just £1 per week payable by standing order. You will receive a membership card containing your lottery numbers which will then be automatically entered into the draw each week. Alternatively you can send a cheque to cover any number of weeks. All winners will automatically receive their prizes, there is no need to claim. Tel: 0870 162 4872 or www.flightforlife.clublottery.co.uk

Blue Badge Scheme

L37, and 37A

Department of Transport parking concessions for disabled and blind people. The Blue Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for people with severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers. The Scheme also applies to registered blind people, and people with very severe upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn a steering wheel by hand. It allows badge holders to park close to their destination, but the national concessions apply only to on-street parking. Details are set out in section 9 of the leaflet. In addition, other concessions may be abailable to badge holders - see section 17.

Blue badges replaced orange badges on 31 March 2003.
